All the CALPADS extracts that include the student name have been updated to use the Legal Student Information (LSI) table. When the gender code is extracted for Calpads for a student with the LSI table populated, the gender will be pulled from the STU.GN field.  This aligns with the Calpads File Specifications posted beginning with the 2019-2020 schoolyear.

The process will continue to look at the STU table for the name and gender information, but if there is data in the Legal Student Information (LSI) table, the Name information will take precedence over the information in STU.

Definitions from the Calpads File Specs posted by CDE:

Student Preferred First Name (NEW)

The first name (i.e., given name) that may be chosen to be used instead of legal first name.

Student Preferred Last Name (NEW)

The last name (i.e., given name) that may be chosen to be used instead of legal last name.

Student Gender Code (NEW Definition):

A coded value representing the person's gender. Gender is a person's actual sex or perceived sex and includes a person's perceived identity, appearance or behavior, whether or not that identity, appearance, or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with a person's sex at birth.

For further guidance on changing the gender in Calpads, see Flash 158 from the CDE website.
