Overview

An individual student or multiple students in a section can be moved, copied or dropped from the Master Schedule page. Navigate to Scheduling Process > Master Schedule. Type a section number, a Course ID, or part of a course title in the search box and click Go (a number is treated as a section number; leave the box empty to list all sections), then click the section to display it.

Note:  When students are added or dropped from a section, or they are moved to another section, they will need to be moved to the new teacher's Gradebook. Teachers add and drop students in their gradebooks with the Add/Drop Students button, or automatically if the gradebook option is turned on; see Class Schedule Maintenance: Impact to Portal. To transfer Students and Gradebooks associated with a section, see Transfer Sections and Gradebooks.

On the Master Schedule page, a roster of enrolled students displays on the Students tab under the section information:

To the right of the roster, the Move students to another class form will allow you to move, copy or drop students. The form displays for users with Insert or Update permission to the Master Schedule:

A blue information box lets you know how to select or tag students and provides a link to the Teachers page, where sections and gradebooks can be transferred at the same time (the link does not display at schools that use Section Staff).

Before using the buttons below, note:

  • The Crs Att Effective Date displays only if your school uses Course Attendance (CAR). It defaults to the next school day and must be a school day on the school calendar; otherwise the message "Invalid Course Attendance Effective Date." displays. For a move or copy, it is the first day in the new section; for a drop, the student's last day in the section is the school day before it.
  • Students with a value in the Locked column (a permanent lock reason) are never moved, copied or dropped. The confirmation message tells you when locked students will be skipped.
  • If the new section doesn't have enough open seats, users with Update permission to the Master Schedule see "Class is full! Continue anyway?". Other users see "New Section does not have enough space for these students." and can't continue.
  • If the New Section doesn't exist, the message "Invalid Section." displays.
  • To tag students, click their rows in the roster. Click a row again to untag it.
