Schools with master schedules track the attendance of students in each course by section. When a student is scheduled into a section of a course, the Start Date and End Date for their attendance in that course is added to the Course Attendance Record (CAR) table. Course attendance is not directly tied to students class schedules (SEC).

The CAR table contains a record of every section of a course that every student is enrolled in throughout the school year. For each section, the record is kept by date and period within the date. The Start Date is the first day the student was enrolled in that course. For many students, the Start Date will be the first day of the school year. The End Date is the last day the student was enrolled in the course. If the course has a term of Y (for year), the End Date will be the last day of the school year. If the course has a term other than Y (for example, 1 or F), the End Date will be the last day of the term. If the student drops the course or moves into a different section of the course before the end of the term, the End Date for the dropped section will be the last day they were enrolled.

The Course Attendance form displays the course enrollment history of each course that a student was enrolled in. The dates displayed under the Start Date and Stop Date columns indicate the date the student started the class and the date the class term will end or the date the student dropped the class.
