What is a Non-Conflict Period?
- A Non-Conflict Flex Period is a special scheduling designation used in the Master Schedule to allow students to be scheduled into overlapping sections without triggering a time conflict.
In the Type field of a Flex Period record, there are two options:
- A default blank code
- A fixed code: C – Non-Conflict Flex Period
When a Flex Period is saved with the Type code 'C' and assigned to one or more sections in the Scheduling Master Schedule, the Scheduler does not check for date/time conflicts for those sections. This means students can be scheduled into these sections even if they overlap with other classes.
Scheduling is based solely on available seats, not time availability.
Use Case Example
A common use case is for RSP (Resource Specialist Program) or intervention sessions where students are expected to attend occasionally or flexibly.
- Example: A student has a weekly RSP check-in. The RSP section is assigned to a Non-Conflict Flex Period, allowing the student to attend without being removed from their regular class. The student chooses one day per week to attend the RSP session.
Attendance Considerations
Should Attendance Be Taken for a Section with a Non-Conflict Flex Period?
- Answer: No, this is not a best practice. See Should Attendance be Taken for a Section with a Non-Conflict Flex Period? for more information.
