Should the Average Daily Attendance Summary ADA percentage match the Student Attendance Campus Summary ADA percentage?


The ADA Percentage will not match exactly between the two reports.  Below is a breakdown of how the information is calculated according to the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook guidelines.


Student Attendance Campus Summary

The Student Attendance Campus Summary calculates ADA Percentage based on the actual number of days of membership, present, absent, and total number of days within the reporting period by Track. 



  • ADA % = Total Days Present / Total Days Membership
  • Reporting Period 1:
    • Total Days Present  83
    • Total Days Membership  87
    • 83 / 87 = 0.95402298850574
    • Rounded to nearest thousandth: 95.402%



Days Membership (both eligible and ineligible students):

ARS.PRS is a count of All-Day Absences (ATT.AL) within membership days (ARS.MBR) based on Absence Codes that count for ADA (ABS.AD = 1) or ATT.AL = " "

Days Membership (both eligible and ineligible students) :

ARS.MBR is a total count of DAY.DT for all students at campus, based on:

DAY.DT is between ATT.CD = E and ATT.CD  = L, or
DAY.DT is same as ATT.CD = B (enrolled for one day)

And

Half day (0.5) if ATT.PR = 2, 5, or 6
Otherwise, full day (1.0)



Average Daily Attendance (ADA) Summary

The Average Daily Attendance (ADA) Summary report takes the information for the reporting period and calculates daily averages for each of those totals - membership, present, and absences - by Track. Then, it calculates the average daily ADA based on those daily averages.  



  • ADA % = Average Daily Attendance / Average Daily Membership
  • Reporting Period 1:
    • Average Daily Membership = Total Days Membership / Total Number Days Reporting Period (Track)
      • 87 / 29 = 3
      • Rounded to nearest hundredth: 3.00
    • Average Daily Attendance = Total Days Present / Total Number Days Reporting Period (Track)
      • 83 / 29 = 2.862068965517241
      • Rounded to nearest hundredth:  2.86
    • Average Daily Absences = Total Days Absent / Total Number Days Reporting Period (Track)
      • 4 / 29 = 0.1379310344827586
      • Rounded to nearest hundredth: 0.14
    • ADA % = Average Daily Attendance / Average Daily Membership 
      •  2.86 / 3.00 = 0.9533333333333333
      • Rounded to nearest hundredth:  95.33 %
