Overview

For elementary schools converting to Flex Scheduling, the Primary Class indicator is used to identify classes that will be the Primary Class in a student's schedule.

Classes

Navigate to Student Data > Scheduling > Classes

The Student Classes page has been updated to display a Primary Class indicator when Tracking Primary Classes for Students has been enabled under School Options. This feature is only available in a school where Flex Scheduling and Use Staff ID Based Counselor feature flags have been enabled. If a section in the Master Schedule has been flagged as a primary class in the MST.PC field, the class will display on the student's schedule with a yellow asterisk icon next to the Course Title. This indicates the student has this course as a primary class. This is especially important for an elementary school to identify a student's primary class in a Flexible Schedule setting. Hovering on the yellow icon will display text that reads "Primary Class".

Course Requests

Navigate to Student Data > Scheduling > Course Requests/Schedule

The student Course Request/Schedule page has been updated to display a Primary Class indicator when Tracking Primary Classes for Students has been enabled under School Options. If a section in the Scheduling Master Schedule has been flagged as a primary class in the SMS.PC field, the class will display on the student's course request schedule with a yellow asterisk icon next to the Course Title. This indicates the student has this course request identified as a Primary Class for their future schedule.

When a student has multiple primary classes in the same term on their course request page, a RED status message will display. Students should only be enrolled in one primary class within a single term.

No additional configuration is needed to view the Primary Class indicator on the Course or Course Request page. To configure the setting for using the Primary Class indicator, see Track Primary Classes School Options for details.

Options

Courses

When in edit mode, the sections will display the Primary Class indicator to help easily identify courses that are marked as a Primary Class when changing a student's schedule.

When a section for a student has been modified that is a Primary Class, a message will display after selecting SAVE to indicate the Primary Class is being changed. This message only displays when the class is being changed in the current term and is changing from one Primary Class to another Primary Class. An option to Cancel is available or Selecting OK will complete the schedule change process.

When a primary class is being changed that has no availability, a warning message will appear to indicate the class is overloaded with an option to continue. An option to Cancel is available or Selecting OK will complete the schedule change process.

View MST

In edit mode, selecting the View MST button displays all sections in the school's master schedule. The MST.PC (Primary Class) field has been added to this page allowing the ability to visually see classes tagged as a Primary Class. The filters on this page allows the user to filter the Primary Class field by selecting YES to only display Primary Classes and selecting NO to only display non-Primary Classes. There is an option to sort on this field also. These changes are included in all views of the View MST pop-up: pinned, in page, and a separate window.

View SMS

Similarly, the View SMS pop-up has the Primary Class indicator displayed from SMS.PC and can be sorted and filtered as needed.

NOTE:  School type must be set for Flex Scheduling and Staff ID Based Counselor Tracking must also be enabled in order to use the Track Primary Classes for Students option.
