The Career Pathways Management page is used to identify, select and mass assign Career Pathway (CPW) and Career Pathway History (CPH) records to Students when they reach specific milestones within a Career Pathway. These milestones within a defined Pathway are categorized as Participant (Introductory), Participant (Level 2)or Participant (Completer). This page will help Users recognize Students who have the potential to complete a Pathway. Students labeled as Completers will extract into the CALPADS SCTE for End of Year Reporting.

The Career Pathway Management page now supports the ability to honor SKIP and KEEP query statements.

Note: The Level field in Career Pathways History is a field (CPH.LVL) that was added to the Career Pathways Management page. Any Academic Year record in the Students' Career Pathways History prior to the Career Pathways Management update dated 5/7/2019 will not have a Career Pathways History Level (CPH.LVL). If the Student already has a 2018-2019 record in the History (CPH) that was placed prior to the 5/7/2019 update it will not have a Level and will not be affected by marking them as Participant (Level 2) or Participant (Completer).

Scheduling Process > Configurations > Career Pathways Management

The definition for each level of Participants (Introductory, Level 2, and Completers) is defined on the landing page for User reference.

Only Pathways with a defined sequence of courses will be listed in the drop down. Select the Show All Available Pathways if a new Pathway is to be implemented to list all pathways offered by the State.

Courses in This Pathway

The Require Introductory Course option can be selected if the Introductory course within the defined Pathway is mandatory for a student to complete prior to the Concentrator course. This will alter the logic when identifying Level 2 Participants and Completers within the Career Pathway Management page.

If the Pathway is funded, the Introductory courses may be mandatory. Please consult with the District's funding source's contact or CTE Coordinator to determine if applicable to the pathway.

When adding a course to the sequence, Users are only limited to courses where the State Course Code (CRS.C3) is within the 7000 – 8999 code range as defined within the Course Group Master Combos tab of the CALPADS Valid Codes document. If the User is not able to locate a course in the drop-down search, the State Course Code may not be within the range or it is blank.

The Level (CCP.LVL) column is READ only and pulls the level based on the State Course Code.

The Sequence and Comment columns are informational only. The Sequence can help Users maintain the sequence order a course should be taken and the Comment can be used to note special circumstances for each course such as an Articulation or College Credit without having to look at the course directly for this information.

NOTE: If two or more schools in a District offer the same Pathways, it is strongly recommended that they offer the same courses. If the course offerings differ between schools for the same Pathway code, the 'Students In This Pathway' list will include courses taken at the other schools.

This portion of the page is divided into seven columns –

  • Name – Student name listed in Last name, First name format as a hyperlink. Clicking on the hyperlink will navigate the User to the Student’s Career Pathways page.

  • Introductory Year – This displays the academic year the Student took an Introductory Course within the Pathway.
  • Level 2 Year – This displays the academic year the Student took a Concentrator course within the Pathway.

  • Current Course – This displays courses within the defined pathway if it is in the Student’s current Class Schedule.
  • Completed Course– This displays the completed course sequence of the defined pathway from the Student’s Transcript.
    • The Course Title, Valid Mark, Credit Completed, Academic Year and Term, and Level of the course are listed.
    • Level 1 and Level 2 courses resulting in zero credits will highlight in Red.
    • Level 3 courses with a Valid Mark of “D” or less will highlight in Red.

Note: The Headers can be clicked to sort the columns

The All option –

Marking the students as a Participant (Completer) will place a CPH.LVL = 3 record in their Career Pathways page. This function will also populate the Completed status within the pathway (CPW.CM = 1).

NOTE- Students who no longer meet the GPA requirements once grades have posted to transcripts should only have the Career Pathway History record removed (CPH.AY) from the Student’s Career Pathway page. Do not remove the Student from the Pathway by deleting the Pathway Code (CPW.CD) record. The Pathway Code record is needed for the Career Pathway Widget to show on the Student’s Profile page.

Removing a Completer level CPH record, will also remove the Completed status (CPW.CM). Refreshing the page will reflect the removal of the check mark.

Only students with CPH.AY = Current Year AND CPH.LVL= 3 records will pull into the CALPADS SCTE extract file.

How to Read the SCTE File

SCTE file will include only students that are tagged as Completers. All completers have the

three digit pathway code and the academic year.  For more information on SCTE data, see EOY 1 CTE file -SCTE.
