Viewing the Standards Based Progress Dashboard

When first viewing the Standards Based Progress Dashboard in an elementary school, the top level standards will display with each of their respective dashboards.

In a secondary school, a drop-down list of the student’s class sections will display sorted by period, with the first class selected by default. Only courses that have standards associated will display in the drop-down list. Selecting a different class section from the drop-down list will load the progress dashboard(s) for that class section.

If the Standards Based Progress Dashboard is accessed via the icon in Gradebook Scores by Student, then the class section corresponding to that Gradebook will be selected by default.

To the left of the graphs the Overall, Max and Min values will display.

  • Overall – the overall of all of the scores displayed for that standard, calculated using either simple averaging or linear regression. The overall score truncates to the hundredths place
  • Max – the highest score achieved for that standard
  • Min – the lowest score achieved for that standard.

The graphs plot the assignment scores and overall standard score as open circles. The overall score is the average or trend score for that standard based on the assignment scores at that point.  Typically the overall score overlays the assignment scores if they are plotted in the same position.

Hovering over the Assignments or Overalls key to the right of the graph will display these points as closed circles.

Clicking on either the Assignments key or Overalls key will hide that data set on the graph. In the below example clicking on Assignments disabled the individual scores from displaying on the graph and only shows the overall scores.

Clicking on the Assignments key again will redisplay the orange assignment score points.

When the Portal Option Display Only Marks for Teachers, Parents and Students (Applies to SBG Grades and Gradebooks) is set, then the legend on the left will be replaced with the marks for that standard. If Term Based Marks are also used, then the marks will adjust depending on the current date and which term that falls on. For example, if the current date is in the first term of the school year, then the marks in the legend will be the Term Based Marks for the first term of the school year. If the current date is towards the end of the school year, then the marks will be the Term Based Marks for the term at the end of the school year.

Navigating the Standards Based Progress Dashboard

Clicking on the View Details button below one of the graphs will display an expandable list of the detail standards and assignments that affect the grade for this standard. Other elements such as the Assignment Category, Assignment Due Date, and Assignment Score are also included in the list

Clicking on View Details again will close this view.

View Related Standards

Clicking on the View Related Standards button below one of the graphs will filter the page to display dashboard(s) for the sub-standards that are associated with that top level standard.  In the below example the CEL.4R, CEL.4L, CEL.4W and CEL.4S standards are sub-standards of the CEL.4 standard. The top-level standard they are associated with (CE) is listed above the dashboards and displays as a button with an ‘X’.

If there is another level of sub-standards below the currently displayed standard, the View Related Standards button will appear and can be used to drill down the dashboard further.  In the example below, the View Related Standards button has been clicked CEL.4 which display CEL4.RF, CEL4.RL and CEL.RI standards. Each standard in this dashboard view can continue to be drilled down because the View Related Standards button is available.  The drilled-down standards are listed above the dashboard, starting with the top-level standard in the left-most position.

Clicking one of the drilled-down standards above the dashboard (the buttons with an ‘X’) will remove that standard from the filter and refresh the dashboard.
