In District Assets an asset item can be checked out to both a teacher and student at the same time. The asset can also be checked in and back out to another student while keeping the teacher assignment the same. The following should be kept in mind when checking out assets:

  • When an asset is checked-out to a student first, then later checked out to a teacher, the asset is automatically checked-in for the student, and checked out to the teacher only.
  • When an asset is checked-out to the teacher first, then later checked out to a student, the asset is checked out to both the student and teacher.
  • While an asset is checked out to both a student and teacher, going to Student Check-In to return the item only returns it for the student. The asset will still be checked out to the Teacher.
  • While an asset is checked out to both a student and teacher, going to Staff Check-In will return the item for both the student and the teacher.

This allows schools or districts the flexibility to either allow for example their library staff centrally control checking out of textbooks or other assets, or delegate that responsibility to teachers.
